I Die: You Die

welcometocollegestation I Die: You DieWhy does the past hang on with such tenacity? Listening to an old Gary Numan song takes me right back to my college days. Is it because the college days were better?

No.

It's something that's hardwired into our brains. Or at least it's hardwired into mine.

I think it has to do with that same mechanism that produces what we call our comfort zone. Often in various organizations I belong to or attend, it's suggested that we get out of our comfort zone.

The Comfort Zone seems to imply that it's stuff we're comfortable with. I think that it comes from doing the things we've done in the past.

I've been wating. I've been waiting for so long…

So when I hear the song that takes me back, I remember fondly the days in College Station, Odessa, Arlington and Dallas. Who wouldn't? It was fun. In the future when I hear Enrique Iglesias, it'll zoom me back to the fond days of Portland. Why wouldn't it? These days are fun too.

Some things from the past come back and take us out of our comfort zone though. I guess that my theory above doesn't work 100% of the time. I guess I'll have to refine it a bit.

Trisha said it best, the song remembers when.

We have a station in Houston that plays 80's music. I just laugh and remember all the high school times…at the theater, at Mel's house, even at school. I love that station for the memories more than the music.

Not me! I still had 6 whole minutes to get to lunch. And I could've been posting from my iPhone.
