Next week, Leopard ships. That's the new Mac OS X version 10.5 for those of you not really paying attention to the future.
It comes out on Friday.
Since Vista only caught part way up with Mac OS X 10.4, it seems silly to suggest that Mac OS X is going to be ahead again (since it already is). It's not just going to be ahead, it's going to be way way way ahead.
Sure, lots of features in the new os are tiny little things, but they do add up. Apple suggests that OS X 10.5 Leopard will be super easy to use and fun. When has anyone ever called Windows fun? Even Microsoft doesn't make that mistake.
The only thing Windows has going for it now is that more people use it so there are more people who use it. While that sounds redundant, it's true. Most people who use Windows only use it because most people use it.
Those numbers are changing.
Starting next week I'll be really hard to live with if you're a windows person. Not like I don't already rub your nose in it every chance I get, but starting next week it's like I'm so far ahead I won't even bother to take the time to tell you why. Doing things because everyone else is doing it is never a good enough reason. So I thought I'd take a moment now to suggest that you just give up and get a Mac.
Seriously.
Here's an exhaustive list of what's new in Mac OS X 10.5 over Mac OS X 10.4. Don't even get me started on what's better already than windows. just know that we've upped the ante another 10 or 12 years on the folks in Redmond.
