Just now I was looking at the postcard gallery from my trip with Jim to Australia and New Zealand in 1998. It was before I was diagnosed with cancer, before Jim and I broke up, before I moved to Portland, etc. etc.
Amazingly enough, it was also before the era of digital photos. Sure I had an Apple QuickTake (the one I used for the Area 51 photos elsewhere on my site), but it could only hold 32 pictures and then they had to be downloaded over a cable to a mac. So I didn't take it when we went down under.
Instead I borrowed Gary's Advantix Camera and used actual film. On my return, after developing 10 rolls, I started scanning them all in. Since I liked NZ better than Oz (we were pretty much just in Sydney and you know how I get when I'm stuck in the cities when I travel), I started by scanning only the NZ photos.
I put them on the web with the promise to some day scan in the Australian photos and put them up there too (btw, the Frosty Boy picture is from a Dairy Queen-like place near Christchurch, NZ on the South Island). As a teaser, i went ahead and scanned the postcards I bought and posted them.
Here's the amazing part. 8 1/2 years later, after separating from Jim, moving to another state, buying a house and relocating, I have managed to lose the photos. That's right. They may be somewhere in a box, but I don't have a clue where they are. The ones on the web are the ones that will remain.
The postcards, however, are right here on my desk.
I think that's a little odd. don't you?
Maybe someday those photos will turn up. and if I am so motivated, maybe I'll scan them and post them before I lose them again.

it's sydney dude.
Yeah, I'm totally old fashioned, but I like my Advantix camera better than the digital one. There, I've just confessed that I'm old!
Thanks for the catch. I dated a guy named Sidney once and to this day i get the spelling mixed up. I can never remember which one is spelled with and i and which one is spelled with a y.
um, liza with z?
