How can you listen to a song for 15 years and then suddenly hear a lyric in it that you've never noticed before?
I'm back from San Francisco. Trisha Yearwood
was excellent as always. It was good to see Kurt, Julie, Lars, Livi, Keith, Tiger and Kent. Sushi Boats, The Best Dim Sum on the planet, Turkey Club Sandwiches, Grilled Chicken and Mushroom Sandwiches, and Most Excellent Thai Food Grasshopper. I managed to hit my favorite restaurants and discover a few new ones!
It was a little odd walking around the streets that I knew so well but feeling like a tourist. I was happy to be there, but it was clear that I was only there for a little while. Funny, I felt no compulsion to go see the house where I lived longer than any other house in my life, nor did I make it to any of the offices I rented while I lived there.
I did ride Muni a bit, and was entertained to see that all the problems still exist. In my first day of Muni, I experienced a power outage that made me have to go above ground, a guy who refused to pay his fare and refused to get off until the muni police came and dragged him off, and a scary guy playing with a knife. A really big knife. The next day I saw one of the electric buses fall off it's wires, and managed to hop a ride in a standing room only trolley.
Sheesh. I remember having to put up with that all the time. Now I only do it when I'm on holiday.
It was very nice to get back home, but I do miss having an excited little ball of fur to greet me when I've been gone a couple of days. So tomorrow, Niko and I are making trek #2 to the Humane Society. …It's gonna happen soon.
