I just have to go on record somewhere about the first season DVD of Bewitched. I bought it at a local store and ended up with the colorized version. I don't know if Bewitched was filmed in color like Daniel Boone before there was color TV or not, but I do know that this DVD version has been colorized.
The one thing that keeps sticking out is the teeth. Dogwood/Dennis/Darwin/Darren's teeth, Samantha's Teeth, Larry's teeth, even Glady's Kravitz' teeth. The are ashen pale white.
It looks to me like whoever colorized the video didn't colorize the teeth. It shows up here and there and makes the characters seem a little more fake than the bright colors already do.
Imagine Endora with livid red hair, bright green and blue gowns, nasty 60's blue eye shadow and black and white teeth. It really is kind of disturbing.
Now I have to go get season two and see if they did it any better…

Hey! I think the first season or two was filmed in B&W cause, pretty much, TV was. Then by the third season they went color. So, hang in there, it will improve slightly. I mean, Endora was a creature of the 60's. I always enjoyed the fact that Sam was the mother of two, running around in go-go boots and mini dresses. Cause my mom, not so much.
yeah, the first several seasons were filmed in B&W. But Disney in the 50s made Daniel Boone in color. His reasoning was that some day there would be color TVs and he wanted to be sure that his TV shows didn't look dated and would stand the test of time.
Funny how that works. Look what we're buying on DVD. Bewitched! The second most requested show on Nick at Night, ever. I guess Disney should have concentrated more on content than presentation. Like I said, funny how that works.
They sell the Bewitched DVD in B&W and color. Maybe you can see if you can switch your colorized version for the B&W version. I thought we had all decided that colorization was just a bad idea. Apparently some video distributors didn't get that memo. :-)
