One of my favorite quotes, distilled into current trend-speak: Reality is in perception, grasshopper.
(see this post for the original version of this quote)
So very true.
Sure, reality exists. That post that's stuck in the ground over there is sure enough real. If you hit it with your car you will do damage. If the door on your Landrover gets dinged, you will notice it for ever. And I'll remind you to notice when you aren't thinking about it.
Reality is the perception, tho, grasshopper.
That means that just because the door is dinged you don't have to stress over it. Guess what. doors get dinged.
People make such a big deal out of everything. I was reading in the blogosphere about a current argument over restaurants in Bend, Oregon. I'm not gonna provide a link for several reasons: 1) you can google it as fast as I can to go find it again and 2) it is that classic degenerative whining that you see so often online.
It starts with one person accusing another of something, then they nasty stuff begins. Soon enough, friends and co-posters are signing on to degenerate the original poster or counter-poster. Before you know it, someone's parents have to step in and tell everyone to stop fighting.
I've always wondered why it's so easy to get into a downward spiral of accusations and whining and fighting and so difficult to get into an upward spiral of praise and congratulations and compliments.
I think it has to be either the media's fault or video games. Let's bring back prayer in schools and 1950s corporal punishment, that'll show 'em.
I think I'll go see Star Wars again now.

That's a good quote. I've been trying to live by that ever since starting to meditate. Things like door dings don't bother me anymore.
