I don't know if it's a real phenomenon, but today, in my 196 spam messages (since 8 pm last night), 31 of them started out with some variance of "Hi, I'm Julie."
Now, lest you think I'm being stalked by Julie, let me whine a bit more. Julie, in all 31 cases, claims to be a college co-ed in Houston Texas who has just installed a webcam and "she's" trying to get people to subscribe "for free" to look at her body parts.
Forgetting the whole porn aspect, and just looking at spam aspect, the illegality of it all is driving me nuts. Can't anyone track "Julie" down and make it stop?
In case you need me to do the math:
- I'm getting an average of 10.3 spam messages PER HOUR since last night, ON SATURDAY NIGHT/SUNDAY MORNING.
- 15% of them advertise THE SAME SITE.
- NONE of them come from the same email address.
- Yes, I'm getting a message from "Julie" at a different email address every 36 minutes. And this has been going on specifically with "Julie" advertising the same site for approximately 4 weeks now.
So, if you are a legitimate person looking for a company to work on your website, please forgive me if my aggressive spam filter has removed you from my in box. Blame it on Julie, and the other spammers who claim they are doing no harm.

It's a shame there aren't any real journalists out there anymore… This would be a great story to identify the root source of these spam emails. Just follow the money and publish the name, picture, address, etc., of those people who profit from spam. Let the court of public opinion judge.
