I have some questions about Star Wars. I know it's one of (if not the) seminal movie of my life time. It's spawned several sequels and brought prequels into the vogue. Yah, yah, we know all of that.
Only The Matrix seems to have dominated the crowds I run in like Star Wars has.
So my two main questions are:
- How many hours will George Lucas' final epic cost the American corporations in the next two days? Everyone I know is either skipping work Thursday or Friday, or they have coworkers that are skipping work to go see the film. I, myself, have had to rearrange meetings and schedules for my company just so I can sleep late after seeing it at midnight tonight.
- Why is that so? What makes Star Wars so great? The other prequels basically sucked, were boring, and have only been viewed once each by me. But the original movie and the first sequel (Star Wars, followed by The Empire Strikes Back) were both so great to make me not only give up hours of my time to sit thru Return of the Jedi, The Phantom Menace andwhatever Episode II was called (I just can't remember), but to make me do it at odd hours and take productive money-earning time away from the work day.
For the record, I did sit thru Return of the Jedi twice, as painful as it was. Once when it came out and once when it was re-released a few years ago, just prior to the debut of the first prequel.
I am really hoping that this movie tonight will be better than Episode VI, I, or II. But I guess time will tell. Of course, personally, I think just about any movie was better than VI, I, or II, so I don't think my wish is too grand. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
Check out pdxmotw.com for my review after I see the film.
