I received a mailing TODAY from the City of Portland:
Date 4/15/05
Please be advised that road construction will soon be taking place to widen an portion of SW Sam Jackson park Road on Marquam Hill at OHSU……This project will be taking place from May 1st until September 30, 2005. To minimize the disruption of traffic along this heavily traveled thoroughfare, it is necessary that this work take place between the hours of 6:00PM and 7:00AM, Monday through Saturday…
…has issued a noise variance, which we received on April 4th…
and so on and so forth.
Here are the first things that ran through my head when I opened this notice today:
- wow, I get mail from San Francisco in 1 day. I wonder why it takes 10 days to get things from The City at the Bottom of The Hill…
- Nice, they're working over night. I wonder if it'll be as noisy as the trains are all night long, or if I'm positioned well where I won't hear much
- what? they're starting at 6pm every day? but rush hour down the hill runs most days until around 6:30. leave it to the city that works to almost get something right.
- I wonder why they didn't give me advance notice last week when they started tearing up my street. The notice I got for that one came 2 days after they put up the temporary no parking signs. Maybe they needed my i-tax to pay for the stamp.
So I'm giggling at them a bit. Oh well. It'll be a good thing, on October 1st. I think between then and now, I'm going to just block Sam Jackson out of the navigation system in the car.

You… giggled? Is that more of a chortle? Or a slight maniacle "mad-scientist" laugh?
