Help me to explain this stuff

Things I don't understand:

Why does corporate america put up with spyware and viruses when they can run mac stuff and have neither? all the same office software works in both places, except for the viruses and spyware and the current OS on the mac is way more stable and is very much more open source than anything from Redmond.

Why do people believe it's a choice to be Gay? did they choose to be straight? Maybe the bell curve is right and 80% of everyone is attracted to both sexes and that's why the southern preachers think it's a choice…

Why does the federal government have to tax our wages? Isn't our money based on our faith in our government anyway with no real basis in anything? why should they need to take part of it away, when they could just give us less to begin with or make more in the long run?

Why can we only move forward thru time? Does that mean time doesn't really exist and it's just a construct we've created to make our lives seem to have meaning? Like a number system or language?

Why do people still listen to rap? Am I just turning into an old fart that doesn't get it? I mean does it make them feel the same way the music I like makes me feel?

Why? any ideas? help me out here.

Sure. Here are the answers you seek:

    - One word: Money. Corporate America *loves* spyware/adware. Think of it as an effort to build a very targeted mailing list. The result was pretty well described in "Minority Report" – when you'd walk into a store (or anywhere else), get a retina scan, and have targeted ads bombard you constantly. As for viruses, well, it's about the money again. It's cheaper to replace a box riddled with viruses than it is to pay a *good* sys admin to keep the machines running smoothly. The Mac isn't immune to viruses – just viruses written for PCs. Increase the market share, and also increase the potential to create viruses for it. Stability isn't the issue; otherwise, the Mac would be dominant.

    - There is a choice. But it's not the choice to *be* gay, but rather the choice to *accept* that you're gay. People are sadly misinformed about the distinction between these kinds of choices. It's an excellent propoganda tool to lump choices into "yes" or "no" columns. If it were an acceptance question, it completely changes the frame of being gay at all. That requires more discussion (which the "righties" certainly don't want). It's hard to hate someone for being gay if it's understood that being gay is just as natural and "normal" as being straight. "Southern" preachers are no different than any other "preacher" – well, except for the accent.

    - They don't have to. But it takes money to run the government. And there's a *lot* of stuff the government does. So, once you figure out where the money should come from, let them know. Of course, it would require massive audits and accountability for each government program. Not necessarily a bad thing, of course, but no one wants to be investigated.

    - Which direction in time do you wanna go? The flow of time exists, of course, but the *measurement* is man-made. Right now, we only have theories about time. I think once we break the lightspeed barrier, then we can look at testing these theories. Until then, time travel and time in general will be a subject of speculation.

    - People don't listen to rap anymore. They listen to 'hip-hop' and 'gangsta' and 'polka rap' these days. Soon you'll be yelling at kids to get off yer lawn, and you'll be the one bringing tripe casserole to the block party.
