After 6 months, my web firm is getting a website

Today I spent a lot of time working on Fenixworks' website. I have needed to get something posted for the company for a while, but just haven't taken the time to do it. Today seemed like the perfect opportunity.

When we first started The Fenix Group back in 1999 in San Francisco, we went for about 10 months with no website. We relied on word of mouth and the clients that my business partner already had in tow. We worked some of those relationships into some paying customers to help us get through the first year of the business.

Around a year after we launched the company, and after we changed from a partnership to a corporation, we launched our first website. In all honesty, we didn't really launch it, it just kind of got a few quick things thrown together. It's the classic story of the cobbler's children having no shoes.

Then we started a really ambitious web project for our company. The X2 version was going to have a flash intro, and lots of javascript animation. It had marquee lights and a soundtrack. Kind of over the top, but then that's what you might expect from a web firm in San Francisco back then.

"Unfortunately", clients kept paying us to work on their sites, so our super site never really got finished. We had betas that we could show people but that's as far as I think it made it. I'm sure I have a backup around here somewhere showing it.

Then when the business partner left the company, I started steering it in some different directions. We redid the website and launched it. That's the website that still exists today, or at least would if I hadn't pulled it offline a few months ago because it was so out of date. I think I officially retired the X3 site somewhere around last June.

Since moving the company to Portland, I really haven't had time for me or anyone else on the staff to build the site. One of my guys took a stab at it a few months ago, but quit working on it as soon as we had business cards with the Oregon address on them.

So recent events have prompted me to start thinking about the Fenix website again. To paraphrase Bob Dylan, "it shall be released". I'm very happy with the work I did on the home page today, and expect that the supporting pages will be ready to go by the end of January. Site X4 is right around the corner.

Sweet. that's only 8 days from now. I'll post the url here once it's ready.
