I just got back from the Dolly Parton's "Hello, I'm Dolly" concert.
Dolly put on a fabulous show. She was all over the board, with country, blue grass, lounge, gospel, rock and some really nice acapella versions of various tunes. she encored with her song "hello God". there was a whole row of gay boys with cowboy hats on in the very front row at the center of the stage, and they queened it up all the way through the show. She played my favorite Dolly song (The Grass is Blue) accompanied by only her piano playin' instead of the banjos and steel guitars she sings to on the album, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house when she finished. I think it's the most emotional performance of any sad song that I've ever seen live. She joked with the audience constantly, and I don't think I've ever giggled so much at a concert as I did over some of what she said.
in a word, it was fabulous. and even Bret agreed.
