Not satisfied with my never replying to spam (I have a really aggressive spam filter on my email systems), the spammers have started attacking my blog. They seem to think that they can fool me by putting nearly human quotes into their messages.
Well, fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice, shame on you. no wait. um, I think I messed that up.
anyway, here are several of the recent blog-spam quotes that I've received. I have cleaned them up so there are no references to the cheesy stuff the spammers are selling, but other than removing their names, I have left them untouched.
These are just a sampling of why I have to moderate comments on my blog…

The body is not a permanent dwelling, but a sort of inn… which is to be left behind when one perceives that one is a burden to the host.
His mind is open; yes, it is so open that nothing is retained; ideas simply pass through him.
Our main conclusions about the state are that a minimal state, limited to the narrow functions of protection against force, theft, fraud, enforcement of contracts, and so on, is justified; that any more extensive state will violate persons' rights not to be forced to do certain things, and is unjustified; and that the minimal state is inspiring as well as right.
Man is by his constitution a religious animal; atheism is against not only our reason, but our instincts.
In science, 'fact' can only mean 'confirmed to such a degree that it would be perverse to withhold provisional assent.' I suppose that apples might start to rise tomorrow, but the possibility does not merit equal time in physics classrooms.
Objective evidence and certitude are doubtless very fine ideals to play with, but where on this moonlit and dream-visited planet are they found?
Know thyself.
Only in the state does man have a rational existence… Man owes his entire existence to the state, and has his being within it alone. Whatever worth and spiritual reality he possesses are his solely by virtue of the state.
Increasingly, academic jobs are awarded on the strength of the publications of the candidates… And it is a sad fact that young women publish less than young men because they're busy having children.
Consciousness is a word worn smooth by a million tongues.

It used to be junk mail – all those credit card applications, etc. I find it quite satisfying to send the postage-paid envelop rigth back to the sender. Sometimes, I would include their privacy statement or their credit-card terms. It was a pain to open the thing up to begin with – then lick the envelop. But to drop it in the box knowing that they have to pay for it… well, it seems worth it.
Now, for spam, it's unwise to send a reply. That just sends up a red flag saying "Notice me! Here's a valid email!" There should be a way of finding out the identity of a spammer. I don't care about their privacy – so don't whine. They say that the majority of spam comes from a handful of people… so, who are they? Let's put a face with a name and let the retribution begin.
