This is a good thing, I think. Today the senate fell 12 votes short of forwarding Bush's wedge into the United States Constitution.
Even if you're against equal rights for all people to marry, you have to wonder what's up to make the president of these united states try to amend The Constitution.
Go to cnn and see how your senator voted.
I especially liked this part of the article:
Democrats: Not Voting
Sen. John Edwards, North Carolina
Sen. John Kerry, Massachusetts
yep, they were the only two. I guess they were busy. I'd like to believe that if the race were closer, they would have come back from campaigning for 5 minutes to vote.

I think it was a procedural vote, not an actual vote to pass the legislation. I don't think we've heard the last of it, though. However, I think we are going to see a pathetic attempt by the right-wingers to *make* it an issue.
Based on the polls I've seen, the majority of Americans don't consider it a priority. As other countries recognize same-sex marriage and as evidence mounts that gays in the military are okay (as the British are finding out) and that marriage amongst breeders hasn't declined (as evident in Scandanavia), I think the religious right are going to be hard pressed to come up with a "reason" for support of such a ridiculous amendment.
