$4.79 a week could make the U.S.A. a better place

Today I was at our president's website.

On his main page, above the fold (as we say in the web industry), he has a handful of links to his opinions about John Kerry. None of them are labelled as op-ed pieces, and they all have really negative overtones. My favorite says "Kerry Gas Tax Calculator: How Much More Would HE Cost You" (emphasis added by your's truly).

I guess no graphic artist could make a badge that makes us feel good about missing WMDs and being lied to for the past three years. That must be why the Administration's website graphics are so anti-Kerry instead of pro-Bush.

So of course, since my car gets excellent gas mileage, I decided to see how much voting for Kerry will cost me at the gas pump.

Your Cost at the Pump is increased by:
Yearly gas tax increase†=†$47.40
Total yearly bill would = $249.91
Total monthly bill would = $19.17
Total weekly bill would = $4.79
Your 2004 TOYOTA PRIUS has an average gas mileage of 55 MPG.
You live in Oregon which has an average gas price of $2.14 as of 07/05/04.

Wow, so for only $4.79 extra a week, I wouldn't have to wake up every day to reports about how another 18 year old American had died in the war that was "Mission Accomplished" over a year ago.

For $4.79 a week, I'll be able to start travelling in foreign countries again without fear of being dressed down for stupid white house politics.

For $4.79 a week, I don't have to worry about being marginalized as a U.S. Citizen who happens to be Gay.

For $4.79 a week, I don't have to worry about far reaching "patriot" acts that allow the government to spy on the books I read and the television I watch, or racial profiling, or witch hunts, or a President of the US who mis-pronounces and makes up words every single time he opens his mouth.

All that for just $4.79 a week. That seems like a bargain to me. So go to the Kerry Gas Tax Calculator and see what it's gonna cost you to get rid of the trained monkey in the whitehouse.

Added July 8: By the way, I misread the results… No doubt I read them the way the republicans wanted me to (they did start the answer with "cost at the pump is increased by" and then proceded to list the total amounts instead of the delta in amounts as their heading suggests). $4.98 is my TOTAL gas consumption after the supposed Kerry tax. I thought it was my increase. My actual increase would just less than $1.00, so that makes all my whining above even cheaper!

Great post! I've never found my way to your weblog before. (I just found it via WWP). I'll have to root around and read the archives…

    A pretty good bargain
WWP amigo and fellow blogger Cliffdweller points out the "John Kerry Gas Tax Calculator," courtesy of the president's re-election [election?] website. Turns out, it's a pretty pretty good deal.
